How do you open a locked door with a credit card? (Step-by-Step Instruction)

Locked out of your house, apartment or room? No worries it happens every day to thousands of people. Unlocking a door lock using a credit card totally depends on the lock type itself. Most of the time it’s a doorknob that brings that problem which we will describe in this blog

There is a 50/50 chance possibility you can open a door lock with your credit card when it comes to a door knob that has a spring-based latch system. And there is zero chance that you can unlock a deadbolt with your credit card because of the solid latch which unlocks using only the key that turns the cylinder.

Because most people don’t want to call a locksmith to open a door for them (it’s obvious – who wants to spend money on this?), this article will go over all types of situations where credit card solution is viable.

Instructions when you are locked out and have a credit card

  • Step 1: Try to push a door using your leg or shoulder and see how far the door separates from the frame
  • Step 2: In case the door is not “buried” deep inside and you should see a latch right in the middle of the doorknob
  • Step 3: Slide the credit card from top to bottom right on the curved latch
  • Step 4: In case you have a screwdriver, you can press on the latch and push it away from the frame

Unfortunately, if the door gap is too tight, then there is no way a credit card can slip into the latch. Then you might want to use that credit card to pay for a locksmith service. Don’t ever try to unlock a deadbolt using a credit card because it is designed to stay solid inside a hole frame
